Bringing a global brand like X Games to Japan required more than a licensing agreement—it demanded cultural alignment, clear communication, and strong relationship management between ESPN and their newly appointed local partner. With differing business practices, production expectations, and operational workflows, ensuring trust and clarity across both sides was critical for long-term success.

Our Task


Akuntsu was appointed to facilitate communication, manage relationships, and support project coordination between ESPN and the Japanese licensee. From the initial negotiations through each event cycle, we helped align international and local expectations, guided cross-cultural collaboration, and ensured operational clarity. Our continued involvement since the inaugural X Games Japan 2022 has supported the event’s successful annual production—now in its fourth consecutive year (2022–2025), with each edition attracting over 40,000 spectators. By staying closely involved in stakeholder communications and project management, Akuntsu helped make X Games not just a one-time event in Japan, but a sustained and growing presence.
