Tokyo 2020 Ariake Urban Skatepark - Ceremonies Management
Challenge
Tasked with delivering ceremonies across multiple disciplines—Skateboarding Street, Skateboarding Park, BMX Park, and BMX Racing—at the Ariake Urban Sports Park, the project demanded complex coordination across diverse international and local stakeholders. The challenge was further compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, which introduced restrictions on venue access, volunteer participation, and on-site meetings. Operating under these constraints while maintaining Olympic standards of excellence was a significant undertaking.
Our Task
Appointed as Ceremonies Manager, Akuntsu led the planning, production, and operational delivery of all ceremonies at Ariake Urban Sports Park. From the early planning phase through the test event and Games-time delivery, we coordinated with the Tokyo 2020 Ceremonies Team, Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), venue staff, and IOC advisors. We ensured bilingual production management, streamlined communications across international teams, and overcame pandemic-related constraints with flexibility and precision.
The result: a smooth and professional execution that earned high satisfaction ratings from both volunteers and the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee—highlighting our ability to manage pressure and deliver under extraordinary circumstances.
